In your role as an investigative journalist trying to piece together the plot of a kidnapping gone fatally awry, you'll visit four main locations; an abandoned factory provides your introduction, then it's onto an underground facility, a dusty mine and a countryside holiday camp. It's a 3 -4 hour game at best but unlike a lot of horror titles I've played recently, Stairs keeps its scares fresh and jump-scare free by giving each morbid wonderland you turn up at its own distinct flavour, adversaries and backstory. The camera is an overused idea in this sort of game as of late but Stairs finds some excellent ways to anchor it to the terror, at times having you use it as a nightvision camera, at others forcing its flash as a way to edge through pitch black hallways.Honestly one of the best horror games I've played this year. And I play so many that I probably shouldn't be allowed out any more. You can check out the fun I had with it below.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGrPmCPUr7Ehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfRwetHfcb8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_nqC3x54ZM. Is this all game ? I mean it was really short. On the other hand it was scary. Especially first 2 missions. Too bad that after 2 first levels dead girl ghost was replace by monsters with♥♥♥♥♥♥♥between their legs. And i am not afraid of♥♥♥♥♥♥♥between monsrters legs. Still i would recommend this game.. I have to say that being TERRIBLE at these types of games because I am NOT a puzzler I am pleasantly surprised at this offering. The smooth lines and graphics style are a welcome addition. The gameplay and puzzles are do-able for those of us who are puzzley challenged but,are rewarding for everyone. The mine level with the "creatures"actually gave me the "fuzzies"and I am 60 years old and hard to ruffle in this way.The sound and general ambience are spot on.The controls are easy and the interaction is wonderful.I highly recommend to all horror fans. 9\10. STAIRS is a first-person atmospheric psychological horror game, that takes players through the stories of three missing people as seen through the eyes of journalist Christopher Adams. That's what it says on the storefront at least. I would call it more of a suspense walking simulator. It reminded me of Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Doorways, still being a bit different than the former and better than the latter. As was said, this is a first person suspense walking simulator. There is only one instance when you have to actively avoid things more or less hunting you, several more points where you can die due to environmental hazards. Despite this the creepiness is here and a few moments, especially on the first and last levels, can raise that lingering dread feeling. Overall the game should take between 3 and 4 hours to finish.I liked:* the creepy atmosphere* the graphicsI disliked:* the mines (every mines in them horror games are the same and boring)* the bugs (the game crashed on me and/or malfunctioned a few times)* fragmented storyGet this if:* if you like creepy walking simulatorsDon't get this if:* you expect a scary game* you want to kill/outmaneuver scary monsters. Something Terrifying Actually It ReallyiSn't10/10. Very stairy. This isn't a game for a person with little gaming time. If you can't play the game in its entirity in one shot, you'll be replaying the same bits because the developers went with using saving checkpoints over giving the player the ability to save. The only clue I got about when a save checkpoint was reached was seeing "Saving..." in the lower right corner of the screen. I lost all my interest in this game after exploring the warehouse 3 times because I couldn't play long enough to reach the first checkpoint (basement door in last photograph).Being unable to save a game when I want is a pet peeve of mine, especially with games on PC. If this were on a console, I wouldn't be bothered about it.. Enjoyed the first 100 minutes of Stairs! This is not your run of the mill jumpscare playground, as it is a tale taking inspiration from the real world and putting them in a setting that fills you with anxiety and dread. The sound is brilliant, the graphics are good, the story (so far) seems solid! I'll return with a full review once I've gone through it - but as of right now: It's definitely worth a shot if you're into horror.. I enjoyed the Stairs. Story was a bit confusing but once I put two and two together at the end it turned out to be a wonderful game. Had quite a few scares definitely worth it if you want to get a few jump scares. Story is actually very grabbing at the end once you get the whole idea.. Nice psychological horror, unfortunatelly with untapped potential, but still worth a tryGame has some interesting ideas, great sounds and deep story, but story is biggest + and also - of the game i think. The 3 stories are rly interesting .. only problem is that game won´t tell you much about it. I was wondering about it all the time playing it and even after the end it wasn´t clear at all. Then i found out that other people didn´t catch more info either. On steam hub you can find explained story from devs and its rly great, just you have to search for getting to know.. There are also some few other things as small bugs or broken achievements ...It´s not the top horror game ever, but anyway i enjoyed it and i would recommend it to people who are used to these indie horror games and enjoying them same as me :)
